Daily chess puzzle: Check Mate #367

July 1, 2017

Another puzzle from Dragoslav Andric’s 1981 book “Matni Udar”.

White to play and mate Black

3671

Platz v Just, DDR 1972

Solution

I imagine this game was a King’s Indian Attack vs the French. And I also imagine it was Platz’s finest game, since White has a forced checkmate after 1 Qh7+. Not typo hard, since single-line, but very nice nevertheless. I am sure Platz went home happy, and Just won’t have been too displeased.
Qh7+ Rh1+ Nh6+ Nf7+ Rh8+ Rh7+ Rg7+ and Rh1 mate.
