Daily chess puzzle: Check Mate #362

June 26, 2017

Another puzzle from Dragoslav Andric’s 1981 book “Matni Udar”.

White to play and mate Black

Dvoiris v Spassky, 1972

Yesterday, Timman lost, and today it is Spassky’s turn. Strangely, the game isn’t in Megabase.
1 Bc4+! wins more than the exchange.
1…Rc4 2 Rd8+ Kf7 3 Qf5+ Qf6
And now the pretty denouement 4 Re7+!! and mate next move.
