Daily chess puzzle: Check Mate #395

August 3, 2017

Another puzzle from Dragoslav Andric’s 1981 book “Matni Udar”.

Black to play and mate White

Vodopjanov v Kancin, 1974

A nice problem.

Examine all biffs means you have to look at 1…Qg1+! but it took me a glance or two to see that it was winning. 2 Kg1[] f2+

(Purdy’s potassium cyanide) 3 Kh1[] e1(Q) 4 Be1 Rf1 mate.
