Daily Chess Puzzle IOM
Today’s problem is from the current Chess.com Grand Swiss in Douglas, Isle of Man.
As is my custom, I only say which side is to play: and not giving an idea if the move wins or otherwise, unless on occasion I think signposting would be helpful. Instead, the problems are posed with the instruction to decide what you would play, as in a game.
White to play
Wojtaszek v Tari, Douglas, Isle of Man. 11 October 2019
Solution
1 Nf5! the start of a deep series of tactics.
1..Rf4[] because Ng3-f5 uncovered the Be1 attack on f4
2 Bc3+ Ne5
else if 2…Kg8 3 Ne7+ wins the Qg6.
3 Be5+ de (and now the Nc5 is LPDO) 4 Rf4 Bf4 5 Qc5 Qf5
White has simplified to a winning position.
